weekend+notes | 5.26.23

Summer is just days away and calendar grids are filling up with loads of outdoor activities from graduation celebrations, backyard picnics and beach vacations to baseball games, amusement + water parks, evening concerts and pool parties. As a much anticipated time of year, some plans have been in the works for weeks or even months while others will be scheduled spontaneously on a last minute's notice. In any case, this season carries an air of lightness, fun adventure and sunny outlooks that I hope we can all tap into over the next several weeks.

A new section on the website - the library - launched this week as a space to share a reference list of the interior design + gardening books that I have in my collection. Updates will be made with additions and any suggestions or recommendations of the books you have and love are welcome - send me a note! Also currently in the works is a Washington, D.C. guide that will be available soon with a variety of information on restaurants, cafés + places to visit.

Have a wonderful, restful weekend and a happy Memorial Day!

  1. This Cape Cod seaside home seems like the perfect summer kick off in today's notes!

  2. Printed this pasta recipe to try out for dinner next week - possibly with grilled shrimp.

  3. Thinking of a gravelled area in your backyard?

  4. Travel seems to be back in force this summer! If you have plans to go anywhere, you might find a few tips to ensure a smoother trip in this comprehensive list - so many good ones!

  5. A few historical facts about Memorial Day.

  6. With wallpaper trending back, would you consider papering the ceiling? #5 definitely adds an effective dimension and pop to the room. One of the bedroom ceilings in our home had a blue and white star paper when we moved in 18 years ago that we promptly removed - not an easy task to accomplish - but the right pattern can certainly introduce a whimsical element and up the visual interest!

  7. Flower Magazine wrote an excerpt about one of my favorite books from Georgianna Lane - Paris in Bloom.

  8. The Glam Pad features beautiful highlights from two special events: the recently held first Spring Tablescapes Showcase benefitting Little Hands and the 2023 Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show - Chelsea in Bloom - currently taking place in England. Love all of the pretty pastel dresses too!

  9. Speaking of the Chelsea Flower Show, Willow Crossley - author of Flourish + other books - chose the children's classic The Secret Garden as inspiration for her installation on this year's "Flowers on Film" theme for Monica Vinader's store and just won Gold from the expert panel of judges. See her creation on her Instagram posts @willowcrossleycreates.

  10. The combination of books, views and stone work blends so simply in this house in Greece.

  11. Useful pieces of life advice for graduates.

  12. How to look for airline ticket deals during this summer's high demand.

  13. File these blueberry and white chocolate muffins under a running weekend staple...
